What Are We Being Exposed To?

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting get understanding.  (Proverbs 4:7)

Our Body - A Temple of God

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. (Daniel 12:4)

There is no doubt we are living in the last days, the times in which much Bible prophecy will be fulfilled.  We read in Daniel 12:4 that “knowledge shall be increased”.  I believe there will be an increase in “scriptural knowledge”, where the true identity of Israel will be revealed and properly understood; an identity that has been lost for over 2,000 years.  There will be a “spiritual knowledge”; individually and as a nation we need to get on our knees and bring God back into our homes, schools and work places.  And as we have already seen over the last hundred years there will be an advancement in all forms of technology, far greater than what the world has ever known.  In a matter of hours we can now travel to any part of the world.  With a few clicks on the computer we have access to world-wide knowledge.  And we have been provided with a variety of forms of communication to suit our needs.  So much is taken for granted in our everyday lives.

But with some of these advancements comes risks to our health.  These could be unforeseen risks, or ones purposely withheld from us.  I’ll let you decide.

Cell phones are now more popular than ever; for many they are just an extension of their arm.  Recent statistics state there are nearly 6 billion cell phone subscriptions in the last year.  I often feel like I am the only person in the world without one.  Granted if you do have a need for one, there might not be a more convenient invention.

Unfortunately cell phones (along with cell towers, wireless computers and all other wireless devices) emit electromagnetic radiation, a danger that government regulators and the cell phone industry refuse to admit exists.  “It’s looking increasingly likely that cellular phones (mostly smartphones these days) are harmful in terms of cancer risk, particularly to the head and neck,” says Joel M. Moskowitz, Director of the Center for Family and Community Health at the University of California at Berkeley.  “A lot of scientists have come round to the view that radiofrequency radiation is probably carcinogenic because of new research that has emerged since 2011.”  Other conditions include genetic damage, brain dysfunction, brain tumors, headaches and sleep disorders.

The amount of time spent on the phone is irrelevant, according to Dr. George Carlo, as the danger mechanism is triggered within seconds.  Dr. Carlo, PhD, JD, is an epidemiologist and medical scientist who, from 1993 to 1999, headed the first telecommunications industry-backed studies into the dangers of cell phone use.  But he ran afoul of the very industry that hired him when his work revealed preventable health hazards associated with cell phones.

Dr. Devra Davis, author of "Disconnect - The Truth About Cellphone Radiation," has studied the safety hazards of radiation emanating from cell phones.  Like many people, Dr. Davis didn't believe the possibility of cell phones being dangerous until she began to research it.  Now, with toxicological and epidemiological evidence to back up her claims, she's trying to get the word out that cell phone radiation is not only dangerous, but can be downright lethal.

It's important to realize that as long as your cell phone is on, it emits radiation intermittently, even when you are not actually making a call.  So wearing a cell phone on your hip for 15 hours a day is giving that area of your body nearly continuous radiation exposure.  With that said, do not carry your cell phone next to your body, if at all possible.  And keep it away from your bed when sleeping at nights.

Another potential health risk you may have in your home is “energy efficient” light bulbs.  Nowadays we are encouraged to use “compact fluorescent lights” (CFL), rather than the older “incandescent” bulbs.  According to the Energy Star website:  “Switching from traditional light bulbs to CFLs is an effective, simple change everyone in America can make right now.  Making this change will help to use less electricity at home and prevent greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global climate change.  Lighting accounts for close to 20 percent of the average home’s electric bill.  ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs use up to 75 percent less energy (electricity) than incandescent light bulbs, last up to 10 times longer, cost little up front, and provide a quick return on investment.”

However, on the very same website, you will find the emergency procedures that you should follow in the event of just one of these bulbs breaking in your home, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. I am just including 3 from the list:

  • Have people and pets leave the room

  • DO NOT VACUUM. Vacuuming is not recommended unless broken glass remains after all other cleanup steps have been taken.  Vacuuming could spread mercury-containing powder or mercury vapor.

  • If practical, continue to air out the room where the bulb was broken and leave the heating/air conditioning system shut off for several hours.

Pretty scary stuff!

Research at Long Island’s Stony Brook University found that CFL bulbs emit rays so strong that they can actually burn the skin and skin cells. “The results were that you could actually initiate cell death”, said Marcia Simon, a Professor of Dermatology. Exposure to the bulbs could lead to premature aging and skin cancer, according to doctors. “It can also cause skin cancer in the deadliest form, and that’s melanoma,” said Dr. Rebecca Tung.

According to an article on the Internet titled, “A New Method of Poisoning Us With Radiation: 'High Efficiency’ Light Bulbs”, written by Thomas Corriher, “We recommend using either incandescent or L.E.D. bulbs. L.E.D.'s use less power, produce a more natural (and relaxing) light that is less yellow, do not burn out, are not toxic, do not produce harmful radiation, and they operate at a cool temperature so that there is never a fire or burn risk. L.E.D. bulbs are simply a superior technology in every way”.
